FAQ

Before you reach out

A few things people usually want to know before the first call.

How do we begin?

We start with a free 15-minute phone call. It's a chance to share what's bringing you in, hear how I work, and get a feel for whether we're a good fit. If it feels right, we'll schedule a first full session from there.

Do you take insurance?

I'm an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance directly. I can provide a superbill you can submit for possible reimbursement. Many clients receive partial coverage, and I'm happy to guide you through the process so it feels simple and manageable.

How does out-of-network reimbursement work?

Many insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. After each session or month, I provide a superbill with the details your insurer needs. You submit it, and your plan reimburses you directly according to your out-of-network benefits. Before we start, it can help to call your insurer and ask about your "out-of-network outpatient mental health" coverage and deductible.

What are your fees?

Individual sessions are $309 and couple sessions are $345. Family sessions are also available, and we can discuss fees during your consultation. Payment is due at the time of each session. I accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Health Savings Account (HSA) cards.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

I currently offer therapy exclusively by secure video for clients located anywhere in New York State. Virtual sessions fit more easily into a busy schedule, with no commute, and I offer flexible times including evenings.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults, couples, and families navigating relationship challenges, family conflict, and life transitions. I specialize in working with Asian American and second-generation clients, especially high-achieving people balancing family expectations, intergenerational differences, and bicultural identity. Sessions are available in English and Cantonese.

Do I need to be Asian American to work with you?

Not at all. Cultural understanding is central to how I work, and that applies to anyone. Many of my clients come to therapy for anxiety, relationship patterns, career questions, grief, or a season of change that asks something new of them, regardless of background.

How often will we meet?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build consistency and momentum. Over time, we can adjust the frequency based on your goals and how things are going.

How long does therapy last?

Therapy looks different for everyone. Some people want short-term support through a specific transition. Others benefit from longer-term work on deeper patterns in relationships or identity. We'll check in regularly about your goals and progress.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a chance to talk through what's bringing you in and begin identifying what matters most to focus on. I take time to understand your experiences, values, and relationships. Many people leave with a clearer sense of the patterns at play and a first sense of next steps.

What if my family doesn't believe in therapy?

This is common, and it's something we can talk about openly. Reaching out for support can feel difficult, especially if you're used to handling things on your own or if therapy isn't something your family talks about. Our work is confidential, and it's yours. Many clients find that as they gain clarity, their relationships at home begin to shift too.

How do I get started?

Call or text (929) 592-5710, or send a note through the contact page. We'll set up a free 15-minute consultation and go from there.

Still have a question?

Send a note or call. There's no obligation, and I'm glad to help you figure out whether this is the right fit.
